Distribution:  Predominantly central and northern Europe.

Hosts:  Dogs, foxes and cats. 

Life cycle: Infection is by ingestion of embryonated eggs from soil or larvae from paratenic hosts.  Pre-patent period is about 3–4 weeks and patent period can be prolonged depending on immune status. 

Diagnosis: Egg detection by flotation and recovered from 3-5g of fresh or fixed faeces.

Clinical features: Very comone, diarrhoea, weight loss and anaemia, may be acute or chronic signs.
